COWBOY REVELATIONS CHALLENGES

Cowboy Revelations Challenges Church Leaders With Questions That We All Want Answers To.

Stigler, OK, May 8, 2009 - Kelly Palmer is not your typical author. He is just your average cowboy who was led by God one night to write a book he has titled Cowboy Revelations; A Voice Crying in the Wilderness. In it, Palmer challenges church leaders with difficult questions about their teachings, and discusses other sensitive subjects that are bound to either offend or enlighten.

Palmer states, “If a church is doing something the Bible clearly says not to do, why can’t we ask why?” In this book, Palmer does ask why and feels that the answers are long overdue. Palmer asks questions like: Why do you call one another Father, when in Matthew 23:9, Jesus said not to? Palmer challenges not only Catholic churches, but Protestant churches as well, to read and answer the important questions that are in his book.

Cowboy Revelations also addresses issues of homosexuality, illegal aliens, abortion, and failures in the U.S. government concerning religion. In short, Cowboy Revelations covers a wide range of important controversial issues and questions that are not going to go away if ignored.

MEET THE AUTHOR: RICKEY BRAY

Sometimes an author has just as interesting a story as the works they create. So it is with Rickey Bray whose new novel, Rendezvous Rock is described as being "written in prison with a pencil on a legal pad!"
Bray's novel is an exciting romantic suspense. "While vacationing in the mountains, Eric meets an unusual girl from Oklahoma who has sparkling eyes that are so strangely captivating. He is drawn to her like a magnet and is unable to resist being pulled into her mysterious world."
A personal tragedy led this new writer on a downward spiral that landed him in an Oklahoma prison where serious life assessment began. At one pivotal point this author made the decision to "accomplish something" instead of giving up. The result is this first novel created without access to computers, typewriters, or even the Internet! It is an example of "pure fictional invention unhampered by outside ideas or influences." Now out of prison, the author is moving forward with life and his writing.

MEET THE AUTHOR: CECIL GOMEZ

Here is a meet the author and a section about his latest book below. You can find more on him at www.cecilgomez.com. He publishes with Gregath and iUniverse.

Meet the Author: "I, Cecil Gomez, am a native son of Oklahoma, born in the little town of Sapulpa, five miles south of Tulsa, Oklahoma. I am the 2nd offspring of Juan and Edelia Gomez’s twelve children. I was raised in the little town of West Tulsa in a forlorn barrio of other Mexican immigrants – all railroad workers – none of whom could speak English. Our little colony of eleven families, called the Y, was comprised of two-room shacks and was completely surrounded by railroad tracks. I attended the Catholic schools of St. Catherine and Holy Family High School. When I enrolled in school at the age of seven, I could not speak English. At the age of eight, I became bilingual and soon thereafter, I became an interpreter for many Mexican families, assisting them in business and personal matters requiring English attention.I served three years in the United States Navy in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. I am married to my wonderful wife Josephine and have four beautiful children – eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. On returning home from the war, I built my parents a new 7-room home away from the “Y” into a dignified residential part of town. Also, I enrolled in Oklahoma School of Accountancy in Tulsa, and graduated with a BCS. Bachelor of Commercial Science Degree. Pursuing my accounting profession, I later established a very successful accounting Practice. In 1992, I sold my practice and retired. In 1996, I wrote my first book entitled “Mama and Papa’s Twelve Children and the Y, a documentation of the life and times of my parents and family. That book was written solely for family reading and enjoyment. My latest book, “A Mexican Twilight”, was written for purpose of dramatizing the true and complete life-long journey of my parents and other immigrants to the United States in search of a better life. Both of my books include important historic data relative to early Mexican immigration, and their assimilation with American cultureWhere the status of the Mexican immigrant in America is concerned, it is not my purpose nor intent to dilute or glorify their unique, but unfortunate circumstances in the United States. Instead, my only intent is to document the reality of their existence and their dream of a better life. Personally, I view all immigrants in America, whether legal or illegal, as our duty and obligation to openly and legally deal with their dire existence in a compassionate and humanitarian way. History has recorded much bigotry, racism, and discrimination in our country – all of it unnecessary and undeserving, but nevertheless, painful. Many of my readers, including immigrants from countries other than Mexico, have expressed their dislike of the attitude of bigots and would very much like to see a greater respect and acceptance of their life among us. Since the publication of “A Mexican Twilight”, I have gladly donated many books to our schools and libraries and other non-profit historical associations. I have become involved with the Latinos Presentes! Project, an agency dedicated to demonstrating the presence and the contributions of the Hispanic community. This is a project of the Hispanic Resource Center of the Tulsa-City, County library, and in cooperation with Oklahoma University of Tulsa, Oklahoma State University, the Tulsa Community College, and professor Rodger Randle who is with the University of Oklahoma Center for Studies of Democracy and culture."

Sand Springs, Oklahoma author Cecil Gomez is near to the release of his third book. "West Tulsa, Oklahoma 1939, Before and After" is a historical novel about the early days in a small town on the west bank of the Arkansas River in the shadow of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Cecil explores life and times of the community through the eyes of early residents as they share stories of places that dotted the landscape. Their recollections, like the book’s cover, are gradually fading away. He captures the memories of actual events as they affected individuals and families in an easy reading text. He has collected some wonderful photos from original sources for first time publication and posted them with others from the outstanding Beryl Ford Collection in the hands of the Rotary Club of Tulsa. You will want to have this book on your shelf if you have lived in West Tulsa or the Southwest Tulsa area.

You will probably be interested, even if you lived on the east bank of the river and looked west at times, wondering what it was like living in the heart of Historic Route 66, alongside the Frisco/BNSF Cherokee Railroad Yard, between the refineries, and at the west end of the 11th Street Bridge the City of Tulsa dedicated as the Cyrus Avery Bridge in his honor.

MEET THE AUTHOR:Blaine Dixon

Book Title GOING HOME TO LITTLE DIXIE
Book Description:
My intention was to do a photographic impression of life in Southeastern Oklahoma. Some of the subjects covered were education (including FHA and FFA), religion, sports, patriotism, gas and oil exploration, the livestock industry, rodeo sports, native americans, deer hunting, and politics. The sports chapter covers the 2007-2008 basketball season in Pittsburg county. The area covered ranges from as far North as Eufaula for the native American powwow , as far south as Atoka for the Civil War reenactments, as far west as Ada for the Deerman archery tournament, and east to Stigler for a cattle auction. The activities covered are typical of Oklahoma small town and rural life more or less throughout the state despite that fact that I confined my book to southeast Oklahoma.

Armstrong's "Robin" Soars High

Oklahoma author Kenneth Shelby Armstrong presents a story of lyrical beauty, deeply felt emotion, thought provoking actions, and lasting inspiration. "Robin" is tale that begins in WW2. "On the shores of Lake Biwa near Kyoto, Japan a distinguished bishop laid his head in the lap of a lovely Japanese woman and died. His death opened a secret that he had held since he was a young soldier exploring the aftermath of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In some ways the secret was more destructive and dangerous than the atomic bombs that he knew so well."

MEET THE AUTHOR: FREDREA G. COOK

Index to 1930 King Jack Newspaper, Picher, Oklahoma by Fredrea Gregath Cook, 2008.
Another valuable genealogy resource has been produced, making history more assessable. Local family historian and Publisher, Fredrea Gregath Cook, has finished her latest project in conjunction with the Oklahoma Historical Society. Her newest research tool, the Index to the 1930 King Jack Newspaper, Picher, Oklahoma, was made possible by a close working relationship with the OHS.

OHS materials can be accessed, with many other archival collections, at the Oklahoma History Center. The OHC provides National Archives and Records Administration-level services for researchers in Oklahoma. There are several resources the OHC house that can be found no where else on earth. The Oklahoma Newspaper Project is one of these valuable resources, preserving Oklahoma Newspapers for future generations and researchers.

The King Jack was a staple of the small lead and zinc mining town of Picher, Oklahoma and surrounding areas, during the early years. This newspaper is full of information that can be valuable to researchers of families, mining, geography, anthropology, and many other interests. It covered current and world events of the time, club and church meetings, social events, as well as several aspects of the Tri-State Mining Field events and activities. Also of interest in these newspapers is the inclusion of the Picher Chat Pile, the local school newspaper.

Up to this point, no index for the publication existed in any form. The book is an attempt to unlock the research riches that can be found in the newspaper and aid researchers in easily using that microfilm. As is often the case with early day newspapers, there were no page numbers. This led to an organized system of indexing, not based on printed page numbers. Each King Jack was chronologically microfilmed by edition date, beginning January 16, 1930 and ending with the partial November 13, 1930 edition for the OHS project. Not all newspapers were in pristine condition or even complete, but they were microfilmed, none the less.

Mrs. Cook enjoys being able to make local history and research materials available to researchers, world wide. She has several other projects in the works, including the ongoing Ottawa County Families series. For more information, call 918-542-4148, or go to

MEET THE AUTHOR: Ed Roberts

Ed Roberts reports his new book, Whispers, Tears, Prayers, and Hope has released and is now available on Amazon.com. (They have even marked it down)

http://www.amazon.com/Whispers-Tears-Prayers-Hope-Roberts/dp/0976678772/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1227828536&sr=8-1

The publisher submitted a draft copy in October to be considered for the Pulitzer Prize in Verse and it has also been sent to the Oklahoma Center for the Book to be considered for the Oklahoma Book Award.

Being in contention for these awards is a great honor, but, notes the author, this book can help a lot of people; many of the poems in the book already have.

"There is a special poem at the back of the book titled “Ink in the Storm” after which people can read around 20 pages of comments people have left on my poetry site. (I have saved over 200 pages of these.) This comment appears on the back cover, it is from the poem “Trying to Understand the Bombing.” (The poem is in this book.) “a friend of mine here at university of Amman shared with me your poetry i was PLO i was going to be terrorist by stopping me you have saved many i am returning to my people now in desert to allow sand and wind to wash away my shame my friend has shown several all he risk to do so many will never know he met you year ago you saved him he saved me now”

"In 2005, I was 1 of 10 poets chosen to represent the US at a poetry festival that was held in Amman, Jordan. I am amazed and very glad they are still sharing my poetry there." Ed Roberts notes with modesty :"I am just an average person; I work here in Oklahoma City at a call center. Sometimes though, I get to live some extra-ordinary moments".

Moving to a remote town in Oklahoma near the Wichita Mountains was not Allison's idea of fun. But as soon as she discovered the deep secrets hidden in the weathered mountains of the Wichita's, she knew she was meant to be there amidst the hidden treasures, outlaws and secret hideaways. In search of treasures buried by Belle Star and Jessie James, Allison stumbles upon their secret hideaway and must now beat them at there own game.
Kristen R. Porter has grown up near the Wichita Mountains her whole life. A love for hiking and local history inspired her to write Outlaw Land. This is the first in a series of books that takes place in the Wichita Mountains. Over the years, Kristen and her husband have been lucky enough to meet and talk with people who lived in the mountain range back when Victory School House was still in use-and Native Americans still occupied much of the territory in traditional teepees. History and the love of history can be lost with each generation if it is not kept alive. Kristen hopes this book will spark an interest in a new generation and encourage them to learn history from the people who have lived it.

MEET THE AUTHOR: Marilyn A. Hudson UPDATED!

Title: THOSE PESKY VERSES OF PAUL: Women and the New Testament
Author: Marilyn A. Hudson
Description: Marilyn Hudson tackles a topic that has long afflicted many women in the Christian church. For one of the few times, the apparent limitations of women in the life of the church are examined by a woman. The words of the Apostle are balanced by examining the actions of Jesus Christ. Centuries of assumptions and "copycat" commentary are peeled away to reveal a world of new possibilities. The result may surprise some, anger many, and challenge all to reconsider "Those Pesky Verses of Paul."
Publisher: Whorl Books; paperback;
To order: Amazon.com
Contact : whorlbooks@gmail.com
Endorsements for “Those Pesky Verses of Paul”:
In an era where Bible interpreters, commentators, and theologians emphasize the anthropological aspects of the vital contributions of women to Christianity and the New Testament, Mrs. Hudson places the emphasis of exegetical enterprise where it belongs…in the arena of proper and correct Christology.” --- Ken L. Young, Associate Professor of Bible and Theology

“Marilyn Hudson provides more than an eye-catching title; in this work she delivers corrective to misnomers concerning the biblical portrait of women. Her conclusion that Jesus inaugurated an elevation of women to their proper distinction, and that Paul echoed that practice in the Church, desperately needs to be resounded in our day. With her stroke of a pen and sharp grasp of scripture, history and gender differences, this writer compels both men and women to re-examine ancient texts and contemporary interpretations in a quest to arrive at the truth.” ----Dr. Terry Tramel, Professor of New Testament

Marilyn provides much needed balance in her examination of those “pesky” verses. Finally, a woman looks at the scriptures, sees the truth, and communicates it!” –--- Anna Storm, Renaissance Fire
“Mrs. Hudson's work explores a subject that has plagued the Christian world for centuries. What role, if any, should women play in the ever-unfolding drama of the church? Rarely has there been unity of thought in this "arena." Her work is informative, innovative and intriguing. It states clearly and succinctly the examples from the scriptures that have been argued many times. She writes to declare truth rather than to "prove a point" or "make a case." Bound by neither time nor culture, she makes her presentation in perspective of both in order that the reader understands more clearly, what the doctrinal precedent is. Christ brought liberty to the captive--even the captive of culture.” –---- C. Iaquinta, Certified Counselor and Educator

“Marilyn is…a skilled writer and storyteller…” ---– Megan Miles

For the first time I was able to read a woman’s perspective on these most perplexing of scriptures, Marilyn raises the questions that have puzzled, and disturbed me for years. She brings much needed sense and sensibility to the text. She handles them with a strong spiritual depth that preserves Paul’s place in the canon while bringing some much needed fresh air to the murky, bias layered texts…” ----- Mary Brown, Educator
