Writing Workshop scheduled June 6-7 The Writer’s Way
HAWK Publishing Group, Tulsa, Ok is sponsoring its annual two-day writing workshop, The Writer’s Way, Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7, 9:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Doubletree Warren Place, 6110 South Yale, Tulsa. It will feature New York Times best-selling authors Steve Berry, Susan Piver and William Bernhardt.
The workshop will provide several opportunities for aspiring writers to learn the craft of writing and the business of publishing and marketing through master classes, individual and panel presentations given by more than a dozen published authors as well as acquiring agents, editors and publicists. Guidance will be provided for research, organizing, writing, editing, publishing and marketing the individual writer’s work in the areas of fiction and creative nonfiction plus there will be specialty workshops on young adult books, journalism, magazine writing, screenplays, and poetry.

Steve Berry, international best-seller of suspense thrillers including The Third Secret, The Templar Legacy and The Alexandria Link will be the keynote speaker. Trained as a lawyer, he has been writing since 1990 and during that time had 85 rejections over five different manuscripts before Ballantine bought his first book. Today almost 7,000,000 copies of his books are in print appearing in 43 countries and 41 languages. He claims to be “the poster child for It can be done.”

Susan Piver, best-selling author of The Hard Questions to Ask Before You Say “I do,” How Not to Be Afraid of Your Own Life and The Wisdom of a Broken Heart which will be published by Simon & Shuster in January 2010, is the guest of honor. She is frequently featured in the national media as a wellbeing expert and commentator on issues of personal development, relationships and happiness. A graduate of a Buddhist seminary, she has studied and practiced Buddhism for several years and is an instructor in the Shambhala Buddhist tradition, teaching workshops on meditation, inner growth and creativity. She will lead the Creative Nonfiction track.

William Bernhardt, founder of Tulsa’s Hawk Publishing Group is author of 29 books, including the internationally popular Ben Kincaid thrillers and his latest book Nemesis :The Final Case of Eliot Ness, based on the famed crime fighter’s pursuit of America’s first serial killer. He will lead the Fiction track with Steve Berry.

Other featured speakers will include New York literary agent James Fitzgerald, a former editor at St. Martin’s Press and Doubleday; Michael Mason contributing editor to Discover Magazine and author of Head Cases: Stories of Brain Injury and Its Aftermath; Liz Berry, executive director for ThrillerFest, the yearly international gathering for thriller writers, Missy Kruse, editor of Tulsa People and author publicist Arlene Johnson. Oklahoma authors speaking at the workshop include Michael Wallis, Andrea Koenig, Mel Odom, Richard Cox, Jeff Martin, Patrick Chalfant, Brandi Barnett, Michael C. Turpen and Dr. Sheldon Russell.
