Rural Oklahoma Museum of Poetry: One Woman's Unique Vision




She is an author, a teacher, a poet, a visionary. Shaun Perkins is the guiding force behind the most unusual and interesting museum in northeastern Oklahoma, and perhaps, the country.  ROMP! is the Rural Oklahoma Museum of Poetry residing in a bright red barn in Locust Grove, Oklahoma.  Increasing numbers of school groups, tourists and locals are discovering this unique experience mixing literature, creativity, workshops, and life in a place dedicated to the "poetry of the people."   The museum is a member of the Oklahoma Museums Association.  Add it to your lit of day trip options this summer.

Shaun is the author of several books, and one of her poetry books is Aware of Birds Missing. Shaun Perkins is a diversely gifted individuals: she is a storyteller, poet, teacher, and workshop facilitator.  She often conducts workshops and presentations at the regional and national levels with such organizations as the National Storytelling Network, National Association for Poetry Therapy, National Council for Teachers of English, and many more. She has taught creative writing classes for high schools and colleges, in addition to online and with various writing communities.
